Jane Doe and the Cornell 7 case have become the subject of so much public discussion — people questioning her, dissecting her story, and even wanting to know who she is. I find myself asking again: what does it mean to have your entire experience reduced to one night? To have people search for the “perfect victim” before they believe you? In this video, I open up about my journey navigating life, relationships, and healing after trauma. We often talk about the immediate aftermath of sexual assault, but what does it mean to live with the invisible pieces of your story every single day? If you or someone you know has experienced sexual assault, free, confidential support is available 24/7: RAINN National (US) Sexual Assault Hotline: Call 800-656-HOPE (4673) or Text HOPE to 64673 _ The people I've come across after my assault never met the version of me who existed before it. They met the version who was still learning how to trust. The version who could be afraid of things they didn't understand. The version who sometimes needed reassurance, patience, or simply more time. And maybe this video is, in part, an attempt at an explanation I’ve always felt responsible to offer them. But I've also come to realize that this guilt for struggling shouldn't belong to me—it comes from a world that simply doesn't have enough awareness. That is why it's been a privilege seeing the I am Jane Doe movement right now, and seeing so many women bravely stepping forward.
