Better than the famous Blåisvatnet? | Lyngen Alps

Is there a better glacier lake hike in the Lyngen Alps than the famous Blåisvatnet? After more than a week of travelling and camping around Northern Norway, I picked up my. boyfriend in Lyngen Alps with a few free days ahead of us and absolutely no plan for what to do with them. With a rare sunny summer day in the forecast, I started looking for a hike. But instead of choosing one of the usual popular trails, I opened a map of the Lyngen Alps and started looking around the glaciers for blue lakes. That’s how I found Rottenvikvatnet. I already knew Blåisvatnet - probably the most famous glacier lake in Lyngen. It’s spectacular, and that incredible blue water deserves its reputation. But it’s also become incredibly popular, and the rocky hike itself has never been one of my favorites. So when I discovered another turquoise glacier lake with an established hiking trail leading to it, obviously we had to go and see what was there. What followed was a steep hike into the Lyngen Alps, incredibly beautiful turquoise water, lunch beside the lake, an unsuccessful attempt at fishing, exploring around the shoreline, waterfalls and - because apparently looking at glacier water isn’t enough for me - a very cold swim. And somehow, I think I might prefer this one. This isn’t meant as a guide to the “best” hike in Lyngen, or an attempt to turn another quiet place into the next Blåisvatnet. It’s simply one of those small adventures that started with curiosity, a map and a free day. Welcome to Wander and Frame!
