State Lays Out Case Against Tomasz Kosowski | Opening Statement

The State gives its opening statement in Florida v. Tomasz Roman Kosowski. Kosowski, a plastic surgeon representing himself at a bench trial (waived jury), is charged with first-degree murder in the 2023 disappearance and presumed death of attorney Steven Cozzi. Cozzi worked at Blanchard Law and represented parties on the other side of Kosowski’s long-running civil case. In opening, the State lays out its timeline and evidence, including: • Kosowski’s alleged visits to the law office before March 21 • The March 14 utility closet encounter • Surveillance video from the morning Cozzi disappeared • The heavy cart prosecutors say was loaded into Kosowski’s Tundra • Blood and DNA evidence • License plate reader and phone evidence • The Monroe Station dumpster investigation • Evidence recovered from Kosowski’s vehicles, including cash, masks, syringes and succinylcholine Steven Cozzi’s body has never been recovered. Kosowski did not give an opening statement. Kosowski has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent. The State has the burden of proving the charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
