Cozzi was last seen entering his law office in Largo, Florida, on March 21, 2023. His body has never been recovered. The State alleges Kosowski, a plastic surgeon, targeted Cozzi because of a long-running civil case where Cozzi represented parties on the other side. This trial has a few interesting bits: • No body was ever recovered. • Kosowski is representing himself. • He waived a jury, so Judge A. Joseph Bulone will decide guilt. • He also waived a jury for any penalty phase. • The State is seeking the death penalty. • Kosowski has said he does not want to present mitigation evidence. The State's case includes surveillance video, blood and DNA evidence, a fingerprint found inside a utility closet near the restroom where Cozzi was last seen, license plate reader data, phone/Wi-Fi evidence, a remote dumpster investigation, and evidence recovered from Kosowski's vehicles. Police say they also recovered approximately $280,000 in cash, masks, guns, an EMS vest, syringes and succinylcholine, a paralytic used in medical settings. Kosowski has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent. The State has the burden of proving the charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
