The Name You Gave Me is an original worship song about the names we carry, and the name God gives us instead. I think many of us go through life carrying words over ourselves that God never spoke. Failure. Not enough. Too late. Too broken. Too far gone. Sometimes those names come from other people. Sometimes they come from mistakes, disappointment, pressure, shame, or just years of trying to hold everything together. But the gospel tells a different story. God does not wait until we have fixed ourselves before He calls us. He meets us in the middle of the mess, in the tiredness, in the doubt, in the places we would rather hide, and He speaks something truer over us. “I have called you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1 This song is about learning to stop answering to every name the world, fear, or shame has given us. It is about remembering that in Christ we are known, forgiven, loved, held, and called home. Not because we earned it. Not because we proved ourselves. Not because we finally got everything right. But because of Jesus. My hope is that this song encourages anyone who feels worn down, labelled, overlooked, or unsure of who they are, to hear again the voice of God saying: You are Mine.
