Plans to withdraw route C3 and change route 74 have been announced by TfL. This change will create new links around Sands End and Clapham and will cause a decrease in bus service around Fulham and Putney. 0:00 Introduction 0:15 Overview (map) 0:40 Route C3 1:20 Route 74 2:40 Route 430 and Alternatives 4:00 Positive Impacts 5:00 Negative Impacts 6:15 Additional Information 8:00 C3 Route Details TfL's three recent plans to change buses explained: 415 & 333-    • Route 415 WITHDRAWN + Extension to Route 3...   D7, 135, 277, D6 & SL4 -    • Route D7 WITHDRAWN? Routes SL4, 135, 277, ...   C3, 74 & 430:    • Route C3 WITHDRAWN, 74 & 430 Changed (Lond...   Route C3 currently runs between Earl's Court Tesco and Clapham Junction. Route 74 runs between Baker Street Station and Putney High Street. Route 430 runs between South Kensington and Roehampton, Danebury Avenue. Route C3 Route C3 is planned to be withdrawn from service, and replaced by route 74. The C3 is a fairly short route, with a full 5 mile journey taking around half an hour. The C3 provides useful connections to residents in Sands End and around Chelsea. Buses run around every 11 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes. And every 15 minutes all day on Sundays and in the early morning and evenings. The C3 runs daily, between 05:25 and 00:35. Route 74 Route 74 currently runs between Baker Street Station and Putney High Street. The route is planned to be changed between Earl's Court and Putney High Street. Buses will no longer serve West Brompton, Lillie Road, Fulham Palace Road or Putney. Passengers should use the 430 or other alternative routes, more on this later. On Sunday mornings, the 74's will now run every 12 minutes from every 20. The 74 will no longer terminate at Putney, instead being rerouted. The 74 will replace the entire C3 route, between Earl's Court and Clapham Junction. Almost every bus stop currently served by the C3 will be served by the 74 instead. Night route N74 would continue to run between Baker Street Station and Roehampton. Route 430 and Alternatives Route 430 would not be rerouted or extended. This route serves the same stops as the 74 between the Earl's Court area and Putney. Along the Lillie Road, route 190 also provides an alternative to the 74 and 430. Along the Fulham Palace Road, passengers can also use route 220. The 74 and 430 currently provide a bus every few minutes between West Brompton and Putney. The 74 will no longer connect Hyde Park Corner or Knightzbridge and Putney. Passengers should use route 14, which will continue to connect said areas. The 14 and 430 will also continue to connect South Kensington and Putney.s If the 74 is changed, this means extra passengers will use the 430. To compensate, the 430's frequency will be changed. The 430 will run every 12 minutes instead of every 12 to 14 minutes. Positive Impacts Passengers using the C3 will benefit the most. While passengers using the current 74 may be inconvenienced. The C3's line of route will gain new links to central London. The 74 serves Baker Street, Marble Arch, Hyde Park, Knightsbridge and Kensington. These areas will now be directly linked to the Fulham and Clapham Junction areas. As mentioned earlier, there will also be a slight improvement in frequency. Passengers on route 430 will also benefit from an increased frequency. Negative Impacts Passengers who currently use the 74 may have to change to the 430. This means buses may be more crowded than usual. Around 2,700 trips on the 74 would require a change of bus in the future. Over 1,770 journeys would require an extra walk and change of buses. Passengers in the Lillie Road and Putney areas will lose a direct bus link to an accessible station. Three bus stops around Earl's Court Tesco will not be served by the 74. Said stops are a short walk from the 74's line of route. The 74 runs around every 11 minutes on weekdays and every 12 minutes on Sundays. This will result in an improved Sunday and early morning/evening frequency on the C3's route. When will Changes Happen? These changes are currently proposed, not confirmed. TfL are holding a six week public consultation, which ends in November. The consultation report may provide confirmation of changes. If approved, changes may happen in 2027. Why are Changes Happening? TfL are aiming to simplify and rationalise the bus network to save costs. Duplication and excess capacity has been identified in the areas the 74 and C3 serve. In recent years, several routes have been withdrawn to save costs. These include the 10, 16 (332), 48, 82 (13), 118, 168, 347, 414, C2, RV1 and more. Routes 67 and 254 are currently at risk of withdrawal. The planned withdrawal of routes 415 and D7 were also announced recently. For more details on these routes, watch my other videos.
