The Falcons Rode Jamal Anderson. It Cost Him Everything.

In 1998, Jamal Anderson carried the football 410 times. No running back in NFL history had ever carried it more in a single season. Counting the playoffs, it was 480. He was a seventh-round pick, the 201st player taken in the 1994 draft. Four years later he ran for 1,846 yards, made first-team All-Pro, invented the Dirty Bird, and carried the Atlanta Falcons to the first Super Bowl in franchise history. 1,846 is still the Falcons' single-season rushing record. Then it all came apart. In September 1999, 39 days after signing a new contract, he tore the ACL in his right knee in Dallas without anyone touching him. He fought his way back. Then on his 29th birthday in 2001, he tore the ACL in his other knee on a routine sweep. He never played another down. This is the story of how the Falcons rode Jamal Anderson all the way to the Super Bowl, and what it cost him. Football only, told straight. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ⏱ CHAPTERS 0:00 – His 29th Birthday 0:45 – Pick 201 1:55 – The Dirty Bird 2:10 – 1998: 410 Carries 3:45 – The Plan Didn't Change 4:20 – The Road to the Super Bowl 5:30 – The Real Number: 480 5:45 – The Payday 6:10 – Monday Night in Dallas 6:55 – The Comeback, and the Second Knee 7:20 – The Ledger 7:55 – The Top Three Rushers of 1998 8:25 – The Record Falls 8:55 – The Season Nobody Remembers 9:40 – So You Tell Me ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Did the Falcons ride Jamal Anderson into the ground, or was one Super Bowl run worth everything it took?
