🏴 Join us on a spectacular circular coastal walk along the remote and rugged edges of the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales! Starting from the National Trust car park at Porthor, we tackle a beautiful 2.7-mile trek filled with dramatic cliffside views, fascinating local history, and plenty of our usual banter.
In this episode, we explore a landscape steeped in deep time—walking over ancient pre-Cambrian rocks and rare volcanic formations (green mélange) that date back over 600 million years. Along the way, we dive into the treacherous maritime history of Hell’s Mouth bay, look out for local wildlife like bottlenose dolphins and monk seals, and discuss how the local topography was carved out by a mile-deep ice sheet during the last Ice Age.
We also take a moment to appreciate the vital work of the National Trust in protecting these pristine coastlines from private development, ensuring these historic pathways remain open for everyone to enjoy. From scaling steep hills to avoiding a massive bull in a working farmyard, this birthday trek is one to remember!
