We're BACK on the Honda Accord Type R restoration, and after taking a short break to work on my Toyota MR2 SW20, it's time to get back to the big question… can we actually save this Type R?
After the engine failure, the nightmare of starting the engine pull, and the discovery of some seriously questionable repairs and rust, we're now going even further into the car to find out just how bad things really are.
In this episode, I'm stripping out the rest of the interior — removing the rear seats, headliner and all the remaining interior bits I can get out. The door cards can wait for another day!
But as we start pulling everything apart, we're finding more than we bargained for. Hidden rust is appearing in places you wouldn't necessarily expect, and there are even pools of water sitting inside the car!
Suddenly, all this stripping isn't just about making room for the engine removal. We're uncovering more clues about the condition of the car and why it needs so much attention.
IN THIS EPISODE:
Stripping out the rear seats
Removing the headliner
Taking out the remaining interior components
Uncovering more hidden rust
Finding pools of water inside the car
Getting closer to understanding the full scale of this restoration
The more I remove, the more I find… and while it's frustrating to uncover yet more problems, this is exactly why we're taking the time to strip the car properly. There's no point putting everything back together without knowing what we're dealing with underneath.
Is this Honda Accord Type R going to be a rewarding restoration, or are we uncovering more problems than this project is worth?
Let me know in the comments: would you keep going with this Type R, or would the hidden rust and water be enough to make you walk away?
Next time, the restoration continues, and we're one step closer to tackling the bigger jobs still waiting for us!

SAFETY NOTICE
Interior stripping can involve sharp metal edges, electrical wiring, seat-belt pretensioners and airbag systems. Follow the manufacturer's procedures, disconnect the battery and observe the specified waiting period before working around restraint-system components. Use suitable PPE, work in a safe environment, and investigate standing water carefully around electrical components.
