Why Are You Anxious? | Jesus Teaches Us to Trust the Father | Luke 12:22–31 | Christian Scripture Song Why do we allow worry about tomorrow to steal our peace today? “If then ye be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?” — Luke 12:26 (KJV) “Why Are You Anxious?” is inspired by Jesus Christ's teaching about worry, faith, and our heavenly Father's care. In Luke 12, Jesus tells His disciples to consider the ravens. They neither sow nor reap, yet God feeds them. He also points to the lilies, which neither toil nor spin, yet are clothed in beauty. Jesus is not denying that people need food, clothing, or shelter. He is reminding His followers that their heavenly Father knows these needs and calling them to seek something greater than anxious striving. SCRIPTURE FOUNDATION Luke 12:22–31 — Jesus teaches His disciples not to be consumed by anxiety over food and clothing, but to seek God's kingdom. Matthew 6:25–34 — Jesus teaches about the birds and lilies and calls His followers to seek first God's kingdom and righteousness. Philippians 4:6–7 — Believers are called to bring their concerns to God through prayer and thanksgiving. 1 Peter 5:6–7 — Cast your anxieties upon God because He cares for you. Psalm 55:22 — Cast your burden upon the Lord and trust His sustaining care. THE MESSAGE Jesus asks a question that challenges the way we approach life's uncertainties. If worry cannot add even a little to our lives, why allow it to dominate our hearts? We can become consumed by questions about money, work, health, family, and tomorrow. Some concerns are serious and require action. But anxiety itself cannot secure the future. Jesus calls us to a different priority: “But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.” — Luke 12:31 (KJV) Trusting God does not mean ignoring responsibilities, refusing to plan, or avoiding appropriate help. It means placing our confidence in our Father's wisdom rather than assuming that everything rests upon our own strength. For those walking through hardship, addiction recovery, grief, or uncertainty, this teaching offers an invitation to pray, act faithfully today, and trust God with what lies beyond our control. We are not promised a life without difficulties. We are called to follow Jesus Christ, obey His Word, and depend daily upon His grace and the Holy Spirit. May this song remind you that your heavenly Father knows your needs. Seek His kingdom. Bring Him your concerns. Trust Him one day at a time.
