「一枚の和紙に、色彩だけがある。まだ木も輪郭も見えない。あるのは、これから森になるであろう気配だけ。私は何もなさから始まる、この瞬間が好きだ。何ものにもなれるから。」 On a single sheet of washi, there is only color. No tree, no outline yet. There is only the presence of what will become a forest. I love this moment — beginning from nothingness — because it can still become anything. Nihonga was nurtured through the long history of coexistence between humanity and nature. Washi, nikawa, mineral pigments —all are born of nature, and return to it.
