Captivated by Oirase, I have returned to that place for over twenty years. Through spring, summer, autumn, and winter. This painting was made before dawn on an early summer morning. He descends to the water's edge while the world still belongs to no one — and watches as the morning mist dissolves, slowly, into the rising sun. What appears before us is a landscape that exists nowhere in the world. In every branch, in every leaf, lives the painter's memory and silence. This is not painted from life. Twenty years of Oirase — crystallized within me into a single paradise. 奥入瀬に魅せられた私は、20年以上その場所に通い続けた。 春も、夏も、秋も、冬も。 今回描いたのは、初夏の夜明け前。 人がまだ誰もいない時間に、水際まで下りていく。 朝もやが太陽とともに溶けていく、その瞬間を。 そこに見えるのは、どこにも存在しない風景だ。 枝の一本一本、葉の一枚一枚に、記憶と静寂が宿る。 これは写生ではない。 二十年分の奥入瀬が、私の中で結晶した桃源郷である。 Nihonga was nurtured through the long history of coexistence between humanity and nature. Washi, nikawa, mineral pigments —all are born of nature, and return to it.
