This 70-year-old Soviet drill press was abandoned in a scrapyard because of a cracked cast iron head and years of heavy rust. I decided to bring this forgotten machine back to life with a complete restoration. The process included repairing the cracked cast iron housing using nickel electrodes, machining, removing years of rust, restoring the original components, repainting, replacing all the bearings, making new feed handles, and rebuilding the electric motor. I believe this machine is around 70 years old, with a 16 mm drilling capacity. It carries a Soviet state quality certification mark on its motor, but I haven’t been able to identify its exact manufacturer or model. If you recognize this machine, I’d love to hear from you in the comments. I enjoy restoring old tools, machines, and forgotten objects. There’s something special about bringing rusty and abandoned things back to life. ⏱️ Chapters: 00:00 Introduction 01:00 Drill Press Disassembly 06:53 Welding the Cracked Drill Head 07:49 Removing Nameplates & Sandblasting 08:15 Electric Motor Disassembly 09:50 Welding & Milling the Drill Press Base 12:53 Thread Cutting, Body Filler & Painting the Drill Head 15:09 Assembly & Painting the Electric Motor 16:22 Disassembling Drill Press Components 20:07 Sanding the Drill Press Column 20:41 Making New Feed Handles 23:00 Removing Masking Tape After Paint Drying 26:23 Replacing All Bearings 28:37 Printing & Installing New Nameplates 30:10 Drill Press Assembly 39:46 Drill Press Testing 40:27 End Thanks for watching!
