South Of The Border by Gene Autry (1939, Vocalion 78 RPM)

Gene Autry with string band accompaniment — "South of the Border (Down Mexico Way)" on Vocalion 05122, from 1939. The Singing Cowboy's hit version of the song from his film of the same name, on Columbia's budget Vocalion label. An original 78 rpm shellac record, played straight from the disc on a real turntable. No remastering, no noise reduction — just the sound of the record exactly as it was pressed, surface noise and all. Duffy's Den posts a new 78 every day, pulled from a growing collection of vintage shellac from the 1920s through the 1950s: big band, swing, country, crooners, jazz, pop and more. Subscribe and hit the bell so you never miss a spin. If you know more about this record — the session, the musicians, the pressing — drop it in the comments. I love learning the history behind these discs.
