Diwali is a time for sweets, mithai and delicious snacks. But are homemade sweets always healthy? Is jaggery a better option than refined sugar? The truth is that ingredients, preparation methods and portion sizes all matter. In this video, Hansaji shares five easy homemade sattvik recipes that allow you to enjoy festive flavours while being mindful of added sugar, excess fat and deep-frying. Five healthy Diwali recipes covered in this video: 1. Ragi, Sesame and Peanut Bites – A combination of ragi, roasted peanuts, sesame seeds and jaggery. 2. Sweet Potato and Coconut Pedas – Naturally sweet pedas made with sweet potato, coconut and cardamom, with minimal added sweetener. 3. Amaranth and Peanut Crunch – A homemade rajgira chikki with peanuts, sesame seeds and controlled sweetness. 4. Crispy Poha and Peanut Chivda – A crunchy savoury snack prepared with roasted poha, peanuts, chana dal, curry leaves and turmeric. 5. Baked Methi and Ajwain Crackers – Whole-wheat crackers flavoured with fresh methi, sesame seeds and ajwain, without deep-frying. Three tips for healthier Diwali celebrations: 1. Remember that jaggery, honey and other natural sweeteners still contribute to your daily sugar intake. 2. Make smaller portions and enjoy sweets mindfully. Homemade does not automatically mean low-calorie. 3. Do not skip regular meals to compensate for festive treats. Eat balanced meals, stay hydrated and remain physically active. These recipes use familiar ingredients such as ragi, peanuts, sesame, rajgira, poha, turmeric and ajwain. They offer alternatives to conventional sweets and deep-fried namkeen while retaining traditional flavours. People with diabetes should remember that jaggery and sweet potatoes also contribute carbohydrates and should monitor their portions. Celebrate Diwali with homemade sweets, nourishing snacks and mindful eating. Enjoy your favourite mithai without losing sight of your health.
