Hot & Humid Ride Across Maryland Trails & Backroads
Come along for another relaxing ride through Maryland neighborhoods, peaceful bike paths, wooded trails, quiet backroads, and, of course, another visit to the ever-unpredictable haunted golf course.
No racing, no training plans, and no pressure to chase personal records. Just a bicycle, another late-summer evening, some relaxing nature sounds, and enough humidity to make the actual temperature almost completely irrelevant.
One of my favorite parts of documenting the same roads and trails throughout the year is seeing just how dramatically they can change depending on the weather, season, and conditions. Today was a perfect example. The temperature itself really wasn’t that high, especially compared to some of the brutally hot rides earlier this summer, but the humidity was on an entirely different level.
Almost immediately, the air felt heavy and sticky, and there was very little relief once I started moving. Normally the airflow from riding is enough to cool things down, but tonight it felt like I was cycling through a warm cloud. I’m pretty sure I sweated more during this ride than I have on any other ride this summer, which is impressive considering some of the temperatures we’ve already been through.
It was also a good reminder that temperature only tells part of the story. We’ve had hotter rides this summer that somehow felt considerably more comfortable. Tonight’s combination of warm air and brutal humidity made even the familiar sections of the route feel a little more challenging, especially through the woods where the air seemed determined not to move at all.
Apparently my water bottle sensed what kind of evening this was going to be and attempted to escape early. Not far into the ride, it launched itself out of the bike and onto the ground. After all the rough trails, potholes, tree roots, fallen branches, storms, and questionable terrain we’ve covered this summer, I’m genuinely surprised I hadn’t dropped one yet. Thankfully, the bottle survived its first unscheduled dismount, and considering how much I was sweating tonight, leaving it behind definitely wasn’t an option.
And yes, before the gear experts arrive in the comments, I am fully aware that I don’t shift nearly as often as I probably should. My strategy remains simple: put the bike in a difficult gear and see who gives up first, me or the drivetrain. Somehow, we’re both still participating in the experiment. Tonight, the humidity made a surprisingly strong attempt to eliminate me from the competition.
Whether you’re riding indoors, winding down after work, studying, working, falling asleep, or simply looking for a peaceful virtual cycling experience with relaxing nature sounds, thanks for joining me for another ride through Maryland.

If you enjoyed the ride, consider subscribing and joining future rides through Maryland’s neighborhoods, parks, lakes, woodland trails, and scenic backroads. Every episode captures changing weather, seasonal scenery, wildlife, trail conditions, and the little moments that make returning to this route worthwhile. Tonight proved that the thermometer doesn’t always tell the whole story. Sometimes the temperature looks perfectly reasonable, the humidity has other plans, and your water bottle decides to abandon ship before things even get started.
