On 28 October 2026, a high-speed AVE train ran into the back of a stopped Iryo train near Urda, Toledo. Both were on the same track, heading the same way, on one of Europe's most modern railways. 69 people died.
This 3D reconstruction follows the 23 minutes before the crash, minute by minute: how the LZB train-control system failed safe, why trains were only allowed to move at 40 km/h "on sight", and how one order from the control centre sent the AVE forward at normal speed.
The cause is not official yet. Times and statements in this video follow the account given by Spain's Transport Minister Óscar Puente and published reporting. The national rail accident commission's investigation is still ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.

What is simplified: the trains are shown as 4-car sets (the real sets have 8 cars). Distances in the 3D shots are compressed so that both trains fit in one frame. The control room is a generic reconstruction, not the real Adif centre, and no staff are shown. The positions of the six trains on the map are illustrative. The impact itself is not shown; the derailed carriages are seen only from far away, simplified, with no people.
