This video teaches Unit 2, Learning Outcome 1 of the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety: the process of planning and organising health and safety practices in the workplace. You will learn what governance means, why the board and senior management are accountable, and how section 37 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, regulation 5 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 shape their duties. We use HSE guidance HSG65 and INDG417 to explain Plan, Do, Check, Act, the four Cs of organising, and the actions boards own. You will see how plans stay in line with changing law using real changes such as the PPE at Work (Amendment) Regulations 2022, the Fire Safety Order amendments of October 2023 and ISO 45001:2018, and how a management of change process works. Cases include BP Texas City (2005) and Piper Alpha (1988). The final part assesses the resources and skills a plan needs, with a worked capacity gap calculation, and shows what a Pass looks like for criteria 1.1 to 1.3. It is for learners, safety officers, supervisors and managers heading for CertIOSH or the OTHM Level 7 Diploma.
