Haltwhistle Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Northumberland, and around 35 miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne, is the town of Haltwhistle. Geographically, Haltwhistle is situated between the North Pennines and Northumberland National Park, on the north bank of the River South Tyne. Hadrian's Wall is around two miles north of the town centre. At the heart of the town is the Parish Church of the Holy Cross. This dates from the early 13th century, with some 19th century restoration. The church is Grade I listed. In 1207 a market charter was granted to Haltwhistle by King John. Historic industries in the town included wool and coal mining. It was also once home to a coaching inn industry prior to the arrival of the railways, as a staging post on the route between Newcastle and Carlisle. In 1838 the railway arrived in Haltwhistle courtesy of the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway.
