+100 Miles in 4 Days Through Wildfire Smoke | CDT Day 34-37

This was the 105-mile push from Leadore to Lima, four long days of big miles through thick wildfire smoke drifting in from Oregon and Washington. Fire danger was high, the air was hazy, and we hiked some of the toughest, longest days of the whole Continental Divide Trail so far. Day 34 we rolled out of Leadore into a smoky sky and a fresh 105-mile section, and said goodbye to Steady, who stayed back to rest his knees. Then came the big-mile days: 26 miles, then 32, walking right along the Montana and Idaho state line through cow country, past a very stinky "bathtub" (I'll let you see that one), through a bug invasion, and 12-hour days that left me completely done. One step at a time toward Lima and a rest day. This is my CDT 2026 thru-hike, the third and final trail of my Triple Crown after the Appalachian Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail. Over the next few months I'll hike more than 3,000 miles (5,000 km) from Canada to Mexico through Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico, solo.
