Day 053. Boys' day. I take the two of them to Parc de la Coccinelle in Gujan-Mestras. It's a family park on the Bassin d'Arcachon built around a simple idea: let small kids get properly close to animals. There are hundreds of them across the grounds — goats, sheep, llamas, donkeys, pigs, deer, ponies, rabbits — and you walk among most of them with a bag of feed rather than looking through glass. Around the animals they've built out the rest of a day: bouncy castles, playgrounds, a small roller coaster, flume rides and a drop tower. It's pitched squarely at the under-tens and makes no apology for it, which is exactly why it works. Today is also the first day of their Halloween season, which makes the whole thing extra fun. The highlight is bottle-feeding the baby goats and lambs. After that the boys feed everything they can get near, llamas very much included. Then the rides, then the bouncy castles, then the rides again. We stay six hours. I am completely wiped by the end and they still want more. Awesome time. Back home to chill out and get ourselves together, because tomorrow we head to Portugal. 📍 Today's stops Parc de la Coccinelle, Gujan-Mestras 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 We're a family of four from Halifax, Nova Scotia, spending a year travelling through Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Portugal, Hawaii, French Polynesia, New Zealand and Australia.
