After the execution of Lloyd Davies, Sally makes her way back through the narrow corridors of the Connections Bar. The passage is heavy with lingering gun smoke. Eight shots fired in the confined back rooms have left a dense haze hanging beneath the lights, and Sally slowly emerges through it, moving with the same composure she showed when she went in. There is no panic in her step. She reaches the main bar, where her black leather handbag is still waiting on the counter. Sally puts the suppressed pistol inside. She has no intention of getting rid of it yet. Davies may be dead, but her work in San Francisco isn't finished. Another quick strike may be necessary, and replacing the weapon on short notice would be difficult. Beside the bag stands her unfinished martini. Sally picks up the glass and calmly finishes the last sip. Then she places the empty glass inside her handbag as well. She doesn't want to leave behind anything that could connect her to the bar. With the place now deserted, Sally walks toward the entrance and disappears into the night. Outside, she deliberately heads along the opposite side of the street, putting some distance between herself and the Connections Bar before turning toward her car. Then she quickly crosses the road toward the black De Tomaso Pantera waiting at the curb. Moments later, Sally is behind the wheel. The 5.8-liter V8 comes alive with a deep growl. She pulls away hard. The Pantera surges forward, its powerful engine roaring as the wide performance tires briefly squeal against the pavement. Sally enjoys both sounds—the raw strength of the V8 and the sharp protest of the tires as the car puts its power down. The Connections Bar rapidly disappears behind her. Ahead lies the dark, fog-shrouded city. Sally drives deeper into nighttime San Francisco, carrying with her the name of the person who ordered young Brannan's death.
