16 Vintage Singles Ride Through Oregon — Then My Rear Wheel LOCKED UP!

16 vintage single-cylinder motorcycles, 40 miles through the Oregon countryside — and one very unexpected breakdown! After weeks of preparing our friend’s AJS and Matchless singles for the long-awaited Singles Day ride, the day finally arrived. We invited riders from local vintage motorcycle clubs to join us for a 40-mile adventure through some beautiful Oregon countryside. Sixteen wonderful vintage motorcycles took part, producing an incredible soundtrack of single-cylinder engines along the way. The great news? Almost everything went exactly according to plan. The not-so-great news? One motorcycle had other ideas! While riding along at a fair lick of speed, the rear wheel of my Matchless suddenly *locked solid*. Thankfully, I was able to grapple the bike safely to the side of the road and investigate what had happened. Thank you so much to the guys who stayed with me for a while while we tried to see if we could fix it at the roadside. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible. The rest of the group continued on to the lunch venue while Ron kindly turned around on his BSA Gold Star to collect the trailer and rescue the stranded motorcycle. If it’s any consolation, his Gold Star ran perfectly all day. Root Cause Analysis coming soon! Fortunately, nobody was hurt — and despite the unexpected roadside drama, Singles Day was still a fantastic day out!
