Tsukiyo (月夜) means "moonlit night" in Japanese. 🌙 Mix note: Fourteen pieces for one night in a moss garden, played on a single seventeen-string bass koto. The evening opens with low plucked notes and long decays over an unbroken green floor; as the night deepens the silences grow until single notes stand alone, and by midnight the koto plays almost in its lowest register only, each note allowed to die away completely before the next is played. A low warm drone carries the weight of an ancient moss floor, one long sustained chord rests far behind pale moonlight on the moss, and before dawn the last light is still dark on the green. Listen for the pauses — they are as long as the notes, and we kept every one of them. A garden at night usually arrives with its sound effects; this one does not.
