EA Sports NHL '96 - All-star Season 1 Whalers Game 57 | Whalers Stunned by Lightning in Tampa Bay

The Whalers were on the road in Tampa Bay to play the Lightning for the second time this season. Game 23 saw Hartford at home again Tampa Bay and the Whalers took the win 2-0. Hartford had more that twice the shots in that game but Daren Puppa was tough to beat. This game was much the same. The shot gap was narrow in the 1st period and neither team could beat the other's goalie. At the 1st intermission the score was 0-0 and the shots were at HTF 10 and TBL 7. The 2nd period was a stalemate as well with the shots at HTF 33 and TBL 14. Hartford scored just 32 seconds into the 3rd period when Geoff Sanderson went top-glove on Daren Puppa with a hard one-timer from the top-corner of the circle above the hash off a pass from Andrew Cassels from the bottom corner of the circle. Tampa answered back with just under twelve minutes to go in the 2nd. John Tucker popped in the big, fat, juicy rebound from beside the net after Sean Burke made the save on a shot by Brian Bradley. The game ended regulation time tied at 1-1 and the over-time solved nothing with only 4 shots by HTF and 2 shots by TBL. The goalies were the story. Sean Burke stopped 24 of 25 for a 0.960 save percentage and Daren Puppa stopped 50 of 51 for a 0.981 save percentage. Enjoy!
