Day 7 of Inktober Tangles — Star Aniz ⭐ Star Aniz by Carla Jooren is inspired by the beautiful radial structure of a star anise pod, with overlapping seed-like forms creating a wonderfully interconnected design. I clearly had a starfish on my mind, though, because somewhere along the way mine transformed into a little sea creature from a coral reef! I began with one line, one orb, one little shape at a time, letting the repetition take over. The more I drew, the further I seemed to travel — from a simple brown paper tile into an underwater world of coral, sea creatures, and tiny details. That is my favourite kind of meditation: no need to go anywhere, yet somehow being transported somewhere completely different. White ink, watercolour pencil, varying tipple orbs, and a circular string helped build the world around Star Aniz, with each layer adding another little piece to the reef. Seven days into Inktober Tangles, I’m grateful for every tangle that gives me a reason to sit down, slow down, and disappear into the next line.
