Continuing my quest to collect all Gold medals in Assetto Corsa Rally v0.6 Rally Events, I returned to the Fiat 131 Abarth for another Time Attack challenge in Wales, this time on the snowy version of Cwmbiga. The car was once again running the default setup, and although I managed to complete the challenge on the first attempt, the run was anything but clean. It was sketchy from start to finish. ❄️ Cwmbiga Snow - RWD on Minimal Grip The Fiat 131 Abarth is already a car that demands attention, and snow only exaggerates its weaknesses. The biggest issue with the default setup was the differential preload. It feels too high and too aggressive for these conditions, which makes the rear extremely lively under power. With the 131 being rear-wheel drive, that creates a difficult combination: The rear constantly wants to move. The front barely wants to turn. 🛞 Cold Front Tires - Almost No Initial Response The front tires stayed very cold throughout almost the entire stage. That meant very little front-end grip and an extremely delayed response during direction changes. Simply turning the wheel often wasn't enough. The car needed additional help to rotate. Depending on the corner, that meant either using the handbrake or giving the throttle a quick bump to help shift the balance and bring the rear around. Without that extra input, the Fiat could feel like it was waiting far too long before finally responding. ⚙️ Default Setup Clearly Needs Work This run made it pretty obvious where I want to start when I return to the remaining rain version of the Fiat 131 challenge. At minimum, I will reduce the differential preload and adjust the tire pressures. The goal will be to make the rear less aggressive while also helping the front tires reach a better working temperature. The default setup was enough to complete the snow challenge, but it was definitely not a setup I would want to keep using if I was chasing the fastest possible time. 🔄 Constantly Managing Rotation The run became a constant balancing act. Too much throttle and the rear stepped out. Too little rotation and the cold front tires simply pushed the car straight. That meant constantly using small corrections, handbrake input and quick throttle movements to help the car point in the right direction. Not exactly the smoothest run. But definitely an entertaining one. 🌍 P20 on the World Leaderboard Despite being only my first and only attempt and despite how sketchy the run felt, the final result was surprisingly strong. I finished with a huge margin over the Gold requirement and managed to reach P20 on the world leaderboard. That makes the result even more satisfying considering the car was still on the untouched default setup. There is clearly much more performance available. 📊 Run Summary 🎮 Game: Assetto Corsa Rally 🔢 Version: v0.6 🏁 Mode: Rally Events / Time Attack 🇬🇧 Location: Wales 🛣️ Stage: Cwmbiga ❄️ Conditions: Snow 🚗 Car: Fiat 131 Abarth ⚙️ Setup: Default 🔧 Main setup issue: Differential preload too high 🔥 Rear behavior: Very lively and unstable under power 🥶 Front tires: Cold throughout the stage 🛞 Front grip: Minimal / delayed direction changes 🦯 Rotation aids: Handbrake & quick throttle inputs 🥇 Result: Gold 1️⃣ Attempts: First run 🌍 World leaderboard: P20 🎥 Camera: TV Replay & Onboard 📺 Resolution: 4K 🏆 Rally Events Progress 🥇 Gold: 63 🥈 Silver: 0 🥉 Bronze: 0 🎯 Total challenges: 238 🏁 Conclusion Another Gold medal secured, but this one definitely showed the limitations of the default Fiat 131 Abarth setup. The high preload makes the rear too aggressive, while the cold front tires provide very little grip and delay the car's response through direction changes. The result is a car that constantly needs to be managed with throttle, handbrake and weight transfer. Despite all of that, the first attempt was enough for Gold and P20 on the world leaderboard. The remaining rain challenge should be interesting. This time, the setup will not stay completely untouched. Fiat 131 Abarth. Cwmbiga. Snow. First attempt. Gold. P20 in the world. 63 Gold medals and counting. Never Give Up.
