NASA Found Something Strange on Saturn's Moon Titan — and it may be changing what scientists think lies beneath this mysterious moon.
A NASA-led reanalysis of Cassini data suggests Titan may have a much more complicated interior than previously believed. Instead of a simple global underground ocean, scientists propose that Titan could contain layers of ice and slush, with smaller pockets of liquid water deep inside. The finding comes from analyzing how Titan responds to Saturn's powerful gravitational pull.
But Titan's mysteries don't stop beneath the surface. This strange world has a thick nitrogen-rich atmosphere, methane clouds and rain, rivers, lakes, seas, and an extraordinarily complex organic chemistry. NASA's upcoming Dragonfly mission is being prepared to investigate these environments directly. The mission is currently scheduled to launch in 2028 and reach Titan in 2034.
