In this *Weights as Your Teacher* class, we explore the trunk not as something we need to brace or hold rigid, but as a responsive connection between the upper and lower body. *The trunk doesn’t have to become rigid to make us strong. It needs to organize, adapt and transfer force.* Think of the trunk as a *three-dimensional muscular and fascial envelope — a soft coat of armour.* Rather than locking the ribcage and pelvis into one “correct” alignment, this responsive system helps manage their changing relationship as we breathe, reach, rotate and move a weight through space. Inside this soft coat of armour are our viscera. I like to imagine the organs as *water balloons nestled together* — able to accommodate movement and changing pressure from their neighbours. As the diaphragm, ribcage, pelvis and trunk move, we create changing space and pressure within the body rather than treating the centre as a rigid container. The nervous system is part of this conversation. The weight provides information. The nervous system senses the changing load, the trunk organizes a response, and force is transferred through the body. We will also explore *bone density from the perspective of stimulus and adaptation.* Bone is living tissue that responds to mechanical loading. Instead of simply repeating the same local load, we can vary our relationship to the weight and explore how force travels through the skeleton. *Repetition only has value when the body can organize the load well enough to receive the intended stimulus.* This class isn't about doing more repetitions or creating more tension. It's an exploration of how a weight can teach us to create better movement options, distribute force and build capacity. **Strength = organization. Protection = options. Capacity = adaptability.** The weight is not simply something to overcome. *The weight is our teacher.*
