The murder of Pradeep Purnekar, a Thackeray-faction Shiv Sena worker, has sparked tension in Thane and raised serious questions about law and order. It is the fourth killing in the city in barely a month. Purnekar's family alleges that former mayor Meenakshi Shinde is behind the attack, an allegation yet to be proven. Three possible motives are being discussed: political rivalry, real estate interests in the Thane cluster development project, and Purnekar's campaign against the illisit substances. It remains unclear whether Thane Police will question Meenakshi Shinde.
