“Friendly” Marine Has No Idea He’s Getting Arrested For Murdering a Pregnant Woman, Had Sex With Her
In October 2005, 25-year-old Marine reservist Rosendo Rodriguez III sat down with Lubbock Police — voluntarily, with his lawyer beside him — to explain how 29-year-old Summer Baldwin ended up folded inside a brand-new suitcase at the city landfill. His story: consensual sex, a crack pipe, a knife, a chokehold, panic. What he did not know is what the medical examiner had already counted.
This is the full recorded statement, verbatim, with analysis. Summer Baldwin was 29 and the mother of four.

CASE FACTS
• Summer Lee Baldwin, 29, of Lubbock, Texas, was found on 13 September 2005 inside a suitcase at the city landfill. She was in the early weeks of a pregnancy.
• The suitcase was traced through a Walmart receipt and store surveillance to Rodriguez's debit card, purchased at about 3:30 a.m. on 12 September.
• A search of his hotel room recovered a tag from the suitcase, a used condom, blood spatter and latex gloves carrying DNA from both of them.
• He was arrested at his parents' home in San Antonio on 15 September 2005. This statement was recorded on 10 October 2005.
• In April 2008 a Lubbock County jury convicted him of capital murder — murder in the course of sexual assault. Trial testimony described around fifty blunt-force injuries and the possibility she was alive when placed in the suitcase. He was sentenced to death and executed on 27 March 2018.
All interrogation dialogue is quoted verbatim from the recorded statement. Nothing has been reconstructed. Narration is original to The Tell Interrogation. This video is for documentary and educational purposes.
