I had to take a boat to another island.
So I brought with me a tiny battery-powered setup that I can deploy very quickly:the Soma Rumble of Ancient Times, a Korg Monotron Delay, and a Zoom H1n recorder.
I had nothing to hold my phone while filming, so I had to hold it with one hand while improvising with the other. An interesting challenge — and honestly, a pretty fun one.
As soon as everything was connected, I immediately started recording. This session is therefore entirely improvised.
I think I’d like to do this kind of thing more often, in different places here in the Philippines:inside a tuk-tuk, in the jungle, near rice fields, in public markets, or on busy streets.
I like the idea of placing my improvisations directly inside real environments.Using tiny, autonomous setups that can be deployed almost anywhere.
It also creates curiosity around me.People often ask what I’m doing with these strange little electronic objects, which usually leads to spontaneous conversations and encounters.
Given the minimal nature of the setup, I tried to keep the music itself very minimal as well.
The goal is not to demonstrate the instruments or push their sonic capabilities to the limit, but simply to install a mood — an ambient layer whose colors and tensions slowly drift over time.A simple idea evolving gradually.Perhaps even a kind of decorative music, but with its own singularity.
While listening back to the session, it reminded me of certain experimental industrial improvisations, especially pieces by Throbbing Gristle from the album The Second Annual Report (1977), a classic of experimental industrial music.
I now own several small battery-powered electronic instruments that are easy to transport. So over the coming weeks, I’ll probably continue experimenting with different miniature outdoor setups depending on my mood.
I also just received around twenty cassette loops from The Void Electronics, so there will most likely be many more tape loops in future sessions.
Channel Statement:
These sessions are part of an ongoing ambient music project documented as a live audio-visual journal.
Each piece is an improvised ambient performance, recorded in one take using minimal DAWless setups, analog synthesizers, hardware instruments, imperfect loops, and evolving lo-fi textures. The focus is on process, repetition, and spontaneous sound exploration rather than polished production.
These recordings function as raw sonic material — sketches and evolving ideas that may later develop into fully realized ambient albums released on my Bandcamp page.
This channel documents the creative process in its most direct form: live, minimal, intuitive, and unfiltered.
