I brought my harmonium back out.
A woman recently commented on an older harmonium session I recorded a long time ago. She told me she had played it for her father, who suffers from dementia, and that he appreciated it.
That kind of comment gives me a reason to continue recording and sharing these sessions.
I’ve made music my entire life, sometimes carrying a feeling of imposture. But when someone shares a sincere emotional response, something realigns inside me.It restores my confidence, and stays with me for a long time.
For this session, the fundamental note is C.From there, the improvisation simply unfolded naturally.
By the way, for those who enjoy my droning harmonium improvisations, I created a dedicated playlist gathering only those sessions.
This is a very old instrument with its own distinct voice. I bought it in a small village lost in the Rajasthan desert in northern India.
I believe certain instruments retain the memory of everything that has been played through them. This one was used during weddings, and some of its keys are now physically worn down by years of fingers rubbing against them like sandpaper.
My playing remains intentionally simple.I mostly want to highlight the voice of the instrument itself, let it speak, and then allow the Soma Cosmos to apply its own kind of magic over it.
To accompany the harmonium line, I used the Soma Rumble of Ancient Times to create a simple hypnotic repetition that also acts as a rhythmic reference.
The Rumble then runs through the Korg Monotron Delay, adding a dirtier texture and allowing me to shape the sound using the little analog filter that I’ve grown to love.
This session was improvised, performed, and recorded in a single take, because I still believe — perhaps somewhat naively — that first takes often contain the most authenticity, spontaneity… and soul.
Thank you for listening.
Channel Statement:
These sessions are part of an ongoing ambient music project documented as a live audio-visual journal.
Each piece is an improvised ambient performance, recorded in one take using minimal DAWless setups, analog synthesizers, hardware instruments, imperfect loops, and evolving lo-fi textures. The focus is on process, repetition, and spontaneous sound exploration rather than polished production.
These recordings function as raw sonic material — sketches and evolving ideas that may later develop into fully realized ambient albums released on my Bandcamp page.
This channel documents the creative process in its most direct form: live, minimal, intuitive, and unfiltered.
