I didn’t grow up in the kind of family I want to create for my children. Growing up in a dysfunctional family can teach you things that you don't realize aren't healthy until you become an adult. Things you thought were normal. Things you accepted because that's all you knew. For me, growing up meant experiencing things that I now look back on differently family secrets, resentment, being deprived of certain things, people listening to rumors instead of coming directly to us, and unhealthy patterns that continued from one generation to the next. But becoming an adult has made me realize something: I don't have to repeat what I experienced. I can acknowledge where I came from without allowing it to determine who I become. I can heal my inner child. I can learn how to communicate differently. I can create a home where my children feel safe to speak. I can choose honesty over secrets. I can choose love over resentment. And most importantly, I can become the parent I needed. Breaking generational curses isn't about pretending your childhood didn't happen. It's about recognizing the patterns, doing the work, and deciding that they stop with you. This is another part of my healing journey and a reminder that sometimes you have to build the family you wish you had. What is one thing from your childhood that you consciously want to do differently with your own children? Let's talk about it in the comments. 🤍 #breakingthecycle #generationaltrauma #healingjourneys #innerchildhealing #familytrauma
