I went to a spa recently and realised how little you're actually expected to do when you're there. That's probably half the appeal. You can spend an unreasonable amount of time sitting in warm water and nobody thinks you're being lazy. In fact, you've paid good money specifically for the privilege. Which got me thinking. I've made plenty of sounds for stress, overthinking and sleep over the years, but I've never actually tried to build a spa. So that's what this is. Burnout Spa is my attempt to take that feeling of deliberately doing very little and turn it into a twelve-hour sleep sound. And rather than just throwing in some water and calling it relaxing, I wanted each part of the sound to have a job. As touched upon in some of my other vids, burnout tends to show up physically as well as mentally, so I ended up working on the body first, then the overloaded brain, with a deeper layer underneath dealing with that lingering sense of pressure. That gave me: HYDROTHERAPY POOL Warm, slow-moving water and subdued bubbling create a soothing hydrotherapy layer, easing physical tension and establishing the restorative atmosphere of the spa. COGNITIVE COOLING Smooth, airy frequencies create a low-contrast acoustic field, reducing mental stimulation and giving an overworked, overthinking mind space to settle. PRESSURE RELEASE Deep, slowly shifting low-frequency resonance forms a grounding foundation, softening acoustic contrast and creating a sense of stress and accumulated pressure gradually releasing. So to get the sound of the jets, I headed over to my mum's house with a couple of hydrophones and spent some time sitting in her hot tub recording the bubbling underwater. It's a tough job, eh! : I cleaned all of that up and kept the softer water movement, then started working the other layers around it. Cognitive Cooling sits much lighter in the mix (some elongated fabric scratching), while Pressure Release provides the deep low-frequency foundation underneath. I kept working everything together until the individual parts became much harder to pick out and the whole thing just felt calm and consistent. Burnout Spa isn't going to instantly cure all burnout. But if you've had enough for one day, I reckon you're allowed to clock out for the next twelve hours. Sleep long and sleep well, my friends. MADE USING: Arctic Spas hydrotherapy jet recordings, subdued bubbling and water movement, low-frequency resonance, elongated fabric scratching, slow harmonic modulation and layered sound balancing.
