The jury went home. Then the judge and both sides went line by line through the words those jurors will be handed. Not every line made it. This is Keeta Hill v. Tyreek Hill, the Florida civil trial we follow as Behind Closed Doors. Keeta Hill, the plaintiff, says eight incidents happened during their marriage. Tyreek Hill, the NFL star she is suing, denies the allegations and points to the records made at the time. Nothing here is proven. Day 5 closes with the charge conference: the lawyers at the bench, the jury out, the instructions built page by page. Jurors decide the facts. The judge decides the law they are told to apply, and this is where it gets written. Watch what comes out, and watch who wanted it in. Then ask the question I am asking: when the defense argues no witness tied her treatment to the allegations, should future damages still be in front of this jury? --- WATCH WITH JUSTICE 0:00:00 What this video is, and a preview 0:00:20 to 0:03:09 - Video starts: The jury is home. So that phrase has to come out." 0:12:11 to 0:22:04 - Page five: the defense wants the criminal instruction's wording. 0:22:04 to 0:23:02 - "If the Florida Supreme Court didn't think that was necessary, why should I think it's necessary?" 0:23:02 to 0:25:39 - The judge sustains the plaintiff's objection. The defense's paragraph stays out. 0:25:39 to 0:26:49 - "Stop piecemealing this, please." The judge wants the defense's full list. 0:26:49 to 0:29:13 - A sentence on what does not count under the statute comes out. Watch what jurors will not be told. 0:29:13 to 0:33:57 - Her lawyer says the defense has not met its burden on failure to mitigate. 0:33:57 to 0:36:55 - Future damages: the defense argues no witness tied her treatment to the allegations. 0:36:55 to 0:39:29 - The two sides split over nominal damages and a Florida Supreme Court case. 0:39:29 to 0:41:41 - The defense asks jurors be told not to count the same damages twice.
