South Africans struggling to cope with transport costs

Transport affordability is not just an inconvenience for many South Africans, it has become a barrier to opportunity. A recent study by Ipsos shows that transport costs are keeping millions of South Africans away from their work and education. The research found that 15% of South Africans aged 15-plus say they have missed work, school, college or university at some point because they could not afford transport. This comes as South African motorists pay significantly more at the pumps following sharp fuel hikes earlier this month, with further record increases expected in October.
