Paris Street; Rainy Day (1877) by Gustave Caillebotte, shown in full screen 4K for 3 hours as a calm, ambient art wallpaper. Caillebotte painted this monumental oil on canvas, 212.2 × 276.2 cm, as a view of the intersection now called the Place de Dublin in Paris's 8th arrondissement, near his home. Every street and building in the scene was built in his lifetime, during the rebuilding of Paris under Napoleon III and Baron Haussmann. He used linear two-point perspective and muted, rain-washed colour to give the city a nearly photographic depth, which sets him apart from many of his Impressionist colleagues. The painting was shown at the third Impressionist exhibition in 1877. It is now in the Art Institute of Chicago, which acquired it in 1964 (Charles H. and Mary F. S. Worcester Collection). Use it as a living-room display, a background for work and study, or a quiet backdrop for relaxation and sleep. Credit: Gustave Caillebotte (1848–1894), Paris Street; Rainy Day, 1877.
