Spiced Rye Ginger Cookies

If I told you a cookie had almost the same ingredients as a Rye bread, you’d think I was out of my mind. And maybe I am, but that’s a topic for a different day. I don’t mean exactly the same, but the same in concept – rye flour, molasses, salt, sugar. What sets these apart from rye bread, aside from the fact that one is bread and one is a fabulous cookie, is the spices. If all your favorite warming spices got together and decided not to be carrot cake or pumpkin bread, they unanimously voted to be these cookies. The kitchen will smell irresistible, and if you’re making these as part of your holiday cookie package, like I always do, before you know it you’ll start feeling festive. The ginger and black pepper give them a zesty kick, with the rest of the spices announcing their appearance a bit more subtly but with no less fanfare. I hope you enjoy these as much as we do!
