Module 7
Question 7.3:
Two springs connected in series are subjected to a load and the strain energy in the springs must be equal. The one spring had a mean diameter of 60mm and wire diameter of 6mm and has 17 coils. The second spring has a wire diameter of 4mm and 10 coils the allowable stress for the springs is 140Mpa. G=82Gpa
Calculate:
1) The mean diameter for the second spring.
2) The allowable load to which the spring is subjected.
3) The stress in each Spring.
4) The total strain energy.
5) The total stiffness for the springs.
6) The total deflection for the springs.
