The GLP-1 Playbook: Smarter Strategies for Diabetes Management

This webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The session will begin by reviewing the mechanism of action, pharmacologic differences, and clinical benefits of this medication class. Participants will then explore how currently available GLP-1 agents compare in terms of efficacy, including A1c reduction and weight loss— along with cardiovascular outcomes, dosing strategies, and potential adverse effects. The webinar will also focus on identifying appropriate patient populations for GLP-1 therapy by integrating current clinical guidelines, comorbid conditions, and individualized treatment goals. Finally, attendees will apply this knowledge through real-world patient cases, practicing how to optimize therapy using GLP-1 receptor agonists. Emily is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy. She serves as the Director of the Rural and Underserved Health Scholars Program (RUHSP) and the Director of Clinical Services for ONU HealthWise. As the founding co-director of RUHSP, she designed and launched a comprehensive training pathway that prepares health professional students for careers in rural care while advancing community-based projects that address local health needs. Her clinical practice is in ambulatory patient care, and she is board-certified in both ambulatory care and advanced diabetes management. In her role with ONU HealthWise, Emily provides clinical oversight for the pharmacist team and supports the delivery of pharmacy-centered primary care services to rural and underserved communities throughout the region.
