In Part 1, Santosh and I drove from Mumbai to Pune. This time, we picked up our friend Aditya from Pune and hit the road with a rough plan — Marleshwar. But somewhere between Satara and Kolhapur, the plan changed, and we ended up deciding to head toward a beach near Ratnagiri instead. This video covers that stretch of the journey — the beach part comes in the next one. In this video, you'll see: The drive out of Pimple Saudagar and onto NH48 via Wakad Toll details at Khed Shivapur and Anewadi The climb through Khambatki Ghat and how the road felt A stretch through Satara with a lunch break The road quality heading toward Kolhapur (genuinely one of the better sections) A petrol refuel stop and a minor accident we passed on the highway The exact point where we exited NH48 and decided to change our destination Practical travel info from this leg: Route: Pune → Khed Shivapur → Khambatki Ghat → Satara → towards Kolhapur → exit NH48 towards Konkan Two toll plazas on this stretch: Khed Shivapur and Anewadi Lunch break taken around Satara before continuing the drive Original plan was Marleshwar, changed en route to a beach near Ratnagiri Weather turned pleasant after the ghat section, which also played a part in the change of plan If you're planning a similar Pune to Konkan drive, keep some buffer time for ghat sections like Khambatki — traffic and mud patches can slow you down more than expected. Also worth fueling up before you commit to a plan change like we did, since routes off the highway don't always have petrol pumps close by.
