Rex Ray Inspired Art Remake | Gel Print Cut-paper Collage

026 A couple of months ago, I discovered the world of the late artist Rex Ray — and it completely shifted how I approach collage art (at least for now). My first Rex Ray inspired piece taught me so much, but looking back, it felt rushed and unfinished. Even though I’d agreed to sell it, I ultimately reached out to the buyer to explain I wasn’t proud of it — and he graciously understood. In this video, I’m giving that idea a second chance: I’m remaking my abstract collage, exploring bold new shapes, layered paper, and the freedom that Rex Ray’s work inspires in me. I’ll share my process, what I’ve learned, and why sometimes the most honest thing an artist can do is start over.
