Giro della Montagna, day three of the Gateway Cup and the American Criterium Cup final. Masters 50+, one mile course on The Hill in St. Louis, start and finish in front of St. Ambrose church. Front camera only with live power and heart rate.
This was the strangest race of my season. I avoided a crash on lap two. I avoided a rider's tire exploding on lap four. I won a $75 prime on lap six. And then, on the day my legs finally felt genuinely great after two days of racing in 100 degree heat, I dropped my chain with four laps to go.
The part that hurts is the timing. Days one and two I was riding well but never had the legs I wanted. Day three they showed up, and a mechanical took it away.
The good news is the team had a huge day. Laszlo Alberti won it and Matt Muyres was second. Donkey Label went one two at the Giro, which is the marquee race of the weekend.
One more day. Florissant on Monday, six turns, technical, flat finish.
Racing, training, and honest telemetry from a 50 year old.
