A Viking wedding in Norway that became something much bigger

What happens when an elopement in Norway becomes more than just a wedding? This two-day Viking wedding adventure through Western Norway started with a family name and a desire to reconnect with Norwegian roots. With Norwegian ancestry and the surname Egge, Jeff wanted their Norway elopement to be more than simply choosing a beautiful place to get married. He wanted to feel some connection to the country his family once came from. And so we started beneath Eggenipa - a spectacular mountain near Byrkjelo in Western Norway – where Jeff and Kate exchanged their vows with the mountain rising behind them. But getting married was only the beginning. Over two days, we travelled through some of the most beautiful parts of Western Norway: Eggenipa, Loen, Stryn, Gudvangen and Aurland. Instead of building their destination elopement around one location, they turned it into an adventure - exploring landscapes, Norwegian history and the heritage that had brought them here in the first place. One of the most memorable parts of the journey was Njardarheimr, the Viking village in Gudvangen. What started as a visit became something much more personal when Kate joined the musicians and Jeff began talking with people about Norway, ancestry and why being here felt strangely familiar. And naturally, no journey into Norwegian life would be complete without stepping into a freezing fjord. 😁 For me, this is what adventure wedding photography can become - not simply documenting a wedding day, but following a story wherever it leads. This one became a journey through Norwegian ancestry, Viking history, extraordinary landscapes and unexpected human connections.
