EP15 | University Carrel at Dusk — Finn Brambletail Studies by Green Lamplight He climbed onto a chair far too tall for him, opened his journal, and never got up again. Finn Brambletail is sitting at a narrow wooden study carrel tucked into an alcove between two towering bookshelves, on the reading floor of an old university library at dusk. The chair is plainly too big for him — his feet dangle well above the floor and his tail swings slowly beneath the seat. He holds a stub of pencil in both paws and writes in a tiny travel journal, an oversized traveller's teacup steaming beside his elbow. Tonight he is wrapped up warm: an olive cloth cap with a small feather, a thick plaid scarf wound twice around his neck, brown leather bracers and a simple green tunic, with his heavy travelling coat hung on the corner post of the desk. A single green glass-shaded lamp pools one warm circle of light onto the paper and rims his ear fur gold. Everything beyond it fades away — rows of worn leather spines receding into shadow, dust motes drifting slowly through the beam, tall arched windows where the twilight fog is thickening and the distant street lanterns have blurred into soft haloes. The whole hall is dark. This is the last desk still lit. This is 2 hours and 30 minutes of calm focus music — soft felt piano, nylon guitar, warm pads, muted vibraphone and the quiet room tone of a big empty library. No lyrics. No drums. No climax. Nothing that pulls your attention away from the page in front of you.
