EP17 | The Room of Drying Flowers — Elara Everwind Waits for Her Tea to Cool
She hung the last bundle this afternoon. There is nothing left to do tonight.
Elara Everwind sits on the edge of a low wooden bed in a small upper room, both hands wrapped around an earthenware cup of tea she has not touched yet, holding it close for the warmth. Her eyes are half-lowered, her shoulders have dropped, and she is looking at nothing in particular. Her travel journal lies closed and face-down on the blanket beside her, her tall wooden staff leans against the bedpost, and her wide-brimmed violet hat hangs on the post above it. The day is finished. She is not waiting for anything — only for the tea to cool enough to drink.
The whole ceiling is hung with bundles of drying flowers and herbs — lavender, chamomile, cornflower, dried rose, pale straw grasses — tied head-down along the beams until the room is roofed in soft muted colour. The air is completely still and faintly sweet. A brass lantern hangs low beside the bed, turned down so the light pools warm and amber over the blanket and the floorboards while the ceiling above the flowers stays completely dark. One small deep-set window is open a hand's width to cool blue moonlight and a slice of starry sky. Dried petals lie scattered across the boards, a clay teapot waits on a low stool, and a single moth rests on the lantern glass.
This is 2 hours and 10 minutes of calm instrumental sleep music — soft close-miked piano, celtic harp, warm viola drone, kalimba, bass flute, singing bowls and long ambient pads. No lyrics. No percussion. No sudden change. Music that only ever gets quieter.
Made for falling asleep, resting, meditation, night reading, winding down after a long shift, or simply leaving on quietly until morning.
Stay a while. The room is warm, the door is shut, and nothing needs doing tonight.
🗺️ Scene: A small upper bedroom in an old fantasy cottage late at night, the entire ceiling hung with bundles of drying flowers and herbs tied head-down in string rows along the beams — lavender, chamomile, cornflower, dried rose and pale straw grasses roofing the room in soft muted colour — the air completely still and faintly sweet. A low wooden bed with a thick woollen blanket stands under a single small deep-set window whose shutter is opened a hand's width onto cool blue moonlight and a slice of starry sky. A brass lantern hangs low on a hook beside the bed, turned down so the warm amber light pools over the blanket and the worn floorboards while the ceiling above the flowers stays completely dark. Dried petals scattered on the boards, a clay teapot on a low stool, a stack of books beside the bed, and one moth resting on the lantern glass.
