Her maternal grandmother could play the veena, and her parents were interested in music. She started learning from Padma Chandilyan at the age of six. To her guru’s astonishment, Vidya proved to be an exceptionally bright and diligent girl who could grasp all that was taught to her and more. The apprenticeship continued for ten years till Padma sent her for advanced lessons in 2005 to Suguna Varadachari. Since then, Vidya has been in Suguna’s care and has frequently provided vocal support to her guru in her concerts. Vidya has passed her Bachelors’ and Masters’ degrees in music from Madras University and has plans to proceed to the doctoral level. Though Vidya does not have a powerful voice, her music has the requisite ‘Azhutham’ (clarity) and depth. Her voice is quite melodious and facile. She has performed at prestigious venues and events in India and abroad. The prizes, awards and titles won by her are many. Co-Artists: Details not available This krithi is composed in honor of the second Avarana of the Shri Chakra, the Sarvasha Paripooraka Chakra , a lotus-shaped enclosure with sixteen petals, representing the fulfiller of all desires. The presiding deity of this Avarana is Tripureshi, along with sixteen attendant Devis. Set in the graceful Kalyani raga, Muthuswami Dikshitar’s composition is a profound meditation on Goddess Kamalamba, portraying her as the Supreme Divine Mother, the source of liberation, wisdom, beauty, and bliss. The composer urges the mind to renounce illusion and worship this universal goddess who transcends form and duality. Kamalamba is praised as the destroyer of ego and ignorance, the bestower of spiritual joy, and the protector of devoted seekers. She resides in Kamalapura (Tiruvarur), speaks gently and sweetly, has beautiful and charming teeth, and a radiant face like a lotus. She is the presiding deity of the Sarvashaparipuraka Chakra (a Yogic energy centre) and the beloved of Parama Shiva. Worshipped by the sage Durvasa, she is a mystical and secretive Yogini. She destroys sorrow and miseries and is known as Hamsini, the supreme one among sages. She grants true bliss through the state of liberation (nirvana) and is ever-auspicious (Nityakalyani). She is also known as Katyayani and Sharvani, the consort of Shiva. Her dark braided tresses surpass the deep hue of a swarm of bees. She is the flawless and pure mother of Guruguha (Lord Subrahmanya). She destroyed the arrogant demon Bhandasura and delights the Shaktis, beginning with Kama Karshani.
