At Versailles, royal carriages were far more than vehicles — they were symbols of power, ceremony and political theatre. Inside the Galerie des Carrosses at the Grande Écurie, we discover magnificent carriages used for royal weddings, baptisms, coronations and funerals, including the spectacular coronation carriage of Charles X. We also uncover how some of these extraordinary vehicles were reused across the Bourbon monarchy, Napoleonic Empire and later regimes. In Versailles, even arriving was an art form.
