The Supreme Court has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to consider extending deadlines for voter registration forms amid challenges to Delhi’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. A CJI-led bench said the legality of “logical discrepancy” as a ground for voter deletion remains undecided. The court asked the ECI to facilitate Form 6 and Form 8 submissions for eligible voters who missed deadlines or shifted residences. While the bench declined to issue a formal extension order, it expects the ECI to act independently and keep the process open. The case will be heard again in two weeks.
